Research Spotlight: Tinnitus Study Set to Begin Recruiting

Last spring, RestorEar received a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) for a new study with our collaborators at the University of Miami. We are thrilled to announce that this study, titled "Noninvasive Therapy for Tinnitus", will begin recruiting participants this month.

This research will use RestorEar-built products aimed at reducing tinnitus severity for patients with chronic tinnitus.

Tinnitus—often described as a ringing, buzzing, or hissing sound in the ears—is a condition that affects an estimated 15% to 20% of adults. For some, it’s a mild annoyance. For others, it can seriously impact quality of life, contributing to sleep disturbances, difficulty concentrating, anxiety, and depression. What’s more, many people who experience loud noise exposures or noise-induced hearing loss also suffer from tinnitus.

Despite how common tinnitus is, there’s no one-size-fits-all cure, and many current treatment options are insufficient for sufferers. Our research collaborators plan to spend the next year working with patients with chronic tinnitus in the hopes of improving their symptom management.
